This June 1947 British edition of Astounding Science Fiction contains three novelettes and two short stories. The lead novelette is Theodore Sturgeon's "Mewhu's Jet," which opens with a domestic scene interrupted by a radio announcement of an unidentified object in the stratosphere. When the mysterious craft crashes near a seaside cottage where Jack Garry and his family are vacationing, it damages their home. The Garrys discover a wounded silver-skinned alien man with unusual anatomical features—a single bone in his forearm, ball-and-socket wrist joint, and six fingers—wearing a bright blue robe with a strange metal buckle. Jack and his wife Iris debate whether this creature could possibly be extraterrestrial, eventually deciding to shelter and tend to his broken arm. Additional stories include Clifford D. Simak's "Hobbies," George O. Smith's "Trouble," Mark Champion's "The Unforeseen," and A. Bertram Chandler's "Tower of Darkness."
