The lead story, "Saving a King" by Ensign Clarke Fitch, U.S.N., concerns naval cadet Clifford Faraday who encounters a verbose English businessman, J. Cheshire-Cheshire Cate, aboard the practice ship Monongahela in Lisbon. Cate is pursuing a rare pearl for a necklace from the collection of Juanita Windom's father, a pearl enthusiast. Clif romances Juanita despite Cate's interest; when news arrives that the king will visit the ship, Cate reacts with visible shock and alarm. Also included: "Mark Mallory's Escape" by Frederick Garrison (complete); the serial "In Forbidden Nepaul" by William Murray Graydon; and sections on Military and Naval Academy regulations, plus departmental columns on athletics and correspondence.
