# "Amazing Stories," October 1926, Vol. 1, No. 7
This issue features serialized scientific romance and early science fiction from multiple authors. "Beyond the Pole" (Part 1) by A. Hyatt Verill follows a naturalist on Kerguelen Island who discovers a mysterious metallic cord and indestructible crystal cylinder attached to an albatross, containing a message of unknown origin. Concluding this issue are the final installments of Garrett P. Serviss's "A Columbus of Space" and Jules Verne's "The Purchase of the North Pole," plus the opening of H.G. Wells's "The Island of Dr. Moreau," in which vivisected creatures inhabit a remote island. "Blasphemers' Plateau" by Alexander Snyder completes the fiction offerings. Editor Hugo Gernsback contributes an editorial on how imaginative fiction stimulates technological innovation, citing examples from telephony and patent history.
