"White Gold Pirate" by Merlin Moore Taylor is a pirate narrative. "The Man in the Room" by Edwin Balmer and William B. MacHarg, a psychological detective story featured on the cover, showcases detective Trant using word-association testing on murder suspects and the victim's daughter.
