Adventures in the Far Future & Tales of Outer Space

· 1954

This anthology contains two sections of science fiction stories. "Adventures in the Far Future" features five pieces: "The Wind Between the Worlds" by Lester del Rey, concerning a troubleshooter named Vic Peters working at an interstellar matter transmitter facility on Earth after humanity's recent contact with alien civilizations via the Galactic Council; "Stardust" by Chad Oliver; "Overdrive" by Murray Leinster; "The Millionth Year" by Martin Pearson; and "The Chapter Ends" by Poul Anderson. "Tales of Outer Space" includes five additional stories: "Doorway in the Sky," "Here Lie We," "Operation Mercury," "Lord of a Thousand Suns," and "Behind the Black Nebula." The del Rey story establishes a future where instantaneous matter transmission has linked Earth to distant alien worlds, creating economic disruption and cultural tension as humanity adjusts to galactic commerce and contact with non-human species.
