# Ventures in Romance, Vol. 1, No. 1 (November 1949)

This debut issue of Ventures in Romance contains four stories blending action, comedy, and romance across distinct genres. "A Stormy Tale" features Corky, who lives aboard her grandfather's decommissioned schooner and loves Steve Decker. When Steve is distracted by the glamorous Laura, a jealous squall separates them. During the rescue, Steve realizes Corky is his true love. "The Saga of Coby Nash," a Western, follows Nash arriving in Stopgap after the murder of his acquaintance Red. He discovers the town's corrupt Colonel Beaumont may be responsible, leading to tragic confrontations involving Nash's protective feelings for the local girl Tracey. "Over Head in Love" is a collegiate romance where football hero Hugh Mathews inadvertently causes June to faint with his date proposal; they discover shared interests and genuine affection. "The Black Lily" presents an Elizabethan-era adventure: the beautiful, cunning Lily Sterling manipulates ambassadors and courtiers, eventually betraying Count Alborada to the Queen, setting up a deadly confrontation.
