This May 1957 issue of Action-Packed Western contains two full-length novels and several short stories. The lead novel, "Gunsmoke City" by Art Cleveland, follows Lance Wallace, an Eastern-dressed stranger arriving in a boom-town controlled by the corrupt Mayor Ford Sharky. The second novel, "Lost Range" by Will Cotton, features Jim Lavery, a man branded as a killer who turns to his guns when old Brant is thrown off his ranch with corrupt law involvement. Supporting features include "A Slant on Jesse James" by Carl Breihan examining gang members' views of their leader; "On the Chisholm Trail," a verse feature by Edward Garner; "His Calling Card Had Claws on It" by Harold Gluck about Yellowstone Kelly's publicity problems; and an untitled story by A. A. Baker about Herb Martin becoming an executioner after his father's murder. Robert A. W. Lowndes served as editor.
