# Detective Novels Magazine, Summer 1953

This issue features five detective and crime novels alongside short stories and miscellaneous features. The lead novel, "Death All Around Me" by Norman Daniels, follows Johnny Craig, a bill collector operating in working-class West Side neighborhoods, who becomes entangled in a paradoxical murder case—he knows he killed a man, yet four witnesses swear he didn't commit the crime. Also included are Philip Weck's "Killer Cop," concerning an officer haunted by his dead partner; W. T. Ballard's "Heads—It's Murder," in which protagonist Prentiss witnesses a fatal murder; William Hopson's "Wings of the Dark Angel," involving a kidnapping scheme and a runaway heiress; and E. Hoffmann Price's "Murder in Florida," where a detective's client is murdered before the case resolves. Short stories include Allan K. Echols's "While the Iron Is Hot," featuring a tailor exploiting criminal connections, and Seabury Quinn's "Candid Camera," a horror tale about a photographer unable to escape traumatic memories.
