This document is a Project Blue Book UFO report form (ATIC Form 12) recording a civilian sighting from August 25, 1962, near Poughkeepsie, New York. The observer reported a fire-red object approximately baseball-sized, initially appearing at 30 degrees in the northern sky at 2140 hours local time. The object moved from 90 degrees down to tree-top level, back to 33 degrees, then side-to-side before disappearing while the observer's head was turned. The sighting lasted approximately one hour. Ground-visual observation with no optical aids. Investigating officer Lowell A. Kleiman (2D LT, USAF) at Stewart AFB contacted nearby radar installations; neither detected anything in the area. Weather conditions were clear, 10-mile visibility. The report concludes the sighting was likely an astronomical body (possibly Vega or Deneb), with the sudden rising attributed to atmospheric refraction as the body set.
