Amazing Stories, May 1962

· May 1962

This document is not a pulp magazine but rather a declassified United States Air Force record from May 1962 concerning a UFO sighting. It consists of official military communications and an ATIC (Air Technical Intelligence Center) form documenting observations made from the bridge of a naval vessel. The sighting occurred on May 14, 1962, at coordinates 05-21N 157-28W in the Pacific. Multiple witnesses—the Officer of the Deck, boatswain, lookout, and bridge watch personnel—observed a single object described as orangish-white with a yellowish cast, roughly the size of a pea or bright star, lasting approximately one minute. The object moved in relation to the stars, traveled a bearing from 50 degrees to 52 degrees, moving south-southeast before disappearing behind clouds. The sighting was made visually without optical aids under moonlit conditions with six-tenths cloud coverage. No radar contacts or aircraft were detected at the time. Witnesses were noted as reliable observers with prior experience identifying satellites.
