Military Air Project 1093 Record Card

This document is not a pulp magazine but rather official U.S. Air Force records from Project Blue Book (1960), the systematic investigation of unidentified flying objects. The materials include ATIC (Air Technical Intelligence Center) form 329 documenting a sighting near San Francisco on an unspecified date, concluding the object was "probably balloon" or possibly a bolide meteor. A subsequent incident report dated October 8, 1960, describes aircraft ETHAN 44 observing a "ball of fire" near position 57°35'N 12°45'W at 04:46Z. Witnesses reported the object appeared softball-sized with a long glowing tail of particles, bluish-white coloration becoming red-orange at the tail's end, descending nearly vertically with slight westward drift. The object remained visible four seconds and was considerably brighter than typical meteors.
