Amazing Stories, May 1950

Β· May 16, 1950

This document is a military intelligence report dated 26 June 1950, forwarded from Fifth Army Headquarters in Chicago to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base regarding an unidentified aircraft sighting. On the night of 16 May 1950 near Wilmette, Illinois, a civilian couple parked on the shore of Lake Michigan observed an elliptical object approximately 50-100 feet in diameter traveling south at tremendous speed over the water. The object, visible for three to four seconds, traveled an estimated 50-60 miles during that time at an altitude of approximately 25 degrees above the horizon. It fluoresced with a pink hue and changed course toward the open lake before disappearing from view. The sighting was reportedly witnessed by occupants of another vehicle. The report documents the incident in compliance with Army procedures for reporting unconventional aircraft.
