# Catalog Note: Unidentified Flying Objects Report, 1949
These documents constitute official U.S. Air Force reports documenting sightings of unidentified flying objects near Medford, Oregon on August 6, 1949. Multiple military personnel from the 1905th Airways and Air Communications Squadron filed observations beginning at approximately 1130 hours. Witnesses reported between one and seven shiny objects at undetermined but very high altitude, moving at speeds comparable to or exceeding standard jet aircraft. Objects displayed conventional wings, maintained formation flight with horizontal maneuvering, then broke formation into trail configuration before disappearing and reappearing. Personnel used binoculars and theodolites for observation. Objects reflected sunlight and produced no audible sound or exhaust trail. A United Air Lines DC-4 at 17,000 feet reported inability to see the objects, suggesting altitude above that threshold. Investigation by aircraft proved inconclusive. Detachment officers concluded no definite identification could be determined from available observations.
