The Young Briton: Sam Sawbones

This issue of The Young Briton continues "Sam Sawbones: The Life and Adventures of a Medical Student" by Bracebridge Hemyng, Chapter XI. A newspaper reporter witnesses the incident and plans to publicize it. Later, at a pub, Sam challenges a stranger named Jeff to billiards. Jeff insults Sam, calling him a thief and implying the ring was stolen. A fight ensues, revealing that Jeff bears the word "THIEF" branded or written on his back—identified as Jefferson Claygrave. The installment ends with mysterious menace directed at Sam regarding the ring.
