Tip Top Weekly No. 52: Frank Merriwell's Dash

· April 10, 1897

This issue of Top Top Weekly (April 10, 1897) features "Frank Merriwell's Dash; or, Yale Against the Field," a complete story by the author of Frank Merriwell. The story opens with a physical altercation at Yale between Harry Rattleton and Tom Thornton—an accidental collision that Rattleton worries looks intentional. When Merriwell separates the combatants, tensions escalate as Rattleton suspects Thornton and Fred Flemming have hostile intentions toward Merriwell. However, Merriwell reveals the two have sought reconciliation: David Scott obtained evidence of Flemming's rascality and threatened exposure, compelling both to apologize and pledge peace. Merriwell, believing Thornton was merely led astray, chose mercy over exposing them. Rattleton remains skeptical of their sincerity. The issue also contains "Several Narrow Escapes" (a hunting sketch), a sports department, an applause department, and contest announcements.
