This issue of Boys' First-Rate Pocket Library from the Aldine Publishing Company features a serialized Western adventure. The main narrative, "Yellowstone Jack; or, Trappers of the Enchanted Ground," depicts an emigrant wagon train caught in a sudden mountain storm known as a pouderee—a violent wind, snow, and hailstorm in a canyon pass. The story follows John Warren's group as they race through Shicha-chetish Pass ahead of the approaching tempest. Despite guide Chris Camp's assurances they can escape, old trapper Bob Harris warned of the meteorological danger. The narrative climaxes with the hurricane striking the caravan, overturning wagons, killing at least one person, and carrying away a light wagon with horses. Frank Maynard, thinking of Minnie Warren, attempts rescue efforts amidst the chaos.
