# Museum Catalog Note
This issue of My Queen (No. 24, March 9, 1901), a weekly publication issued by Street & Smith, contains the beginning of a serialized story titled "Among the Elite in Washington; or, Meeting the President" by Grace Shirley. The narrative follows Marion Marlowe, a theatrical star with the Temple Theatrical Company, and her companions—including her friend Bert Jackson and ingenue Miss Ellis—as they travel by private railroad car to Washington to attend President McKinley's inauguration ceremony on March 4th. En route, they discuss a newspaper report about Colonel Horace Appleby's surprising engagement to a Southern belle. Upon arrival in Washington, the narrative focuses on the inauguration festivities, with two prominent congressmen observing the parade and crowds from the Treasury Building steps, remarking admiringly on Marion's appearance. The issue also includes extensive patent medicine advertisements for Dr. T. A. Slocum's remedies, purporting to cure consumption, catarrh, weak lungs, and other pulmonary ailments, with testimonial letters from satisfied customers.
