# My Queen: Marion Marlowe in Salt Lake City
This issue features the serial "Marion Marlowe in Salt Lake City; or, A Bad Deal in Mormon Land" by Grace Shirley. The story opens with a street scene in Salt Lake City where Bert Jackson and Dr. Brookes encounter Native Americans from nearby reservations, followed by a dramatic intervention by Marion Marlowe, a beautiful young woman traveling with the Temple Theatrical Company. When soldiers brutally apprehend two runaway Indians, Marion publicly rebukes the sergeant for his cruelty, demanding humane treatment and threatening to report his conduct. Her intervention succeeds; the officer halts the abuse. The installment ends with the group invited to a military ball at Camp Douglas following a theatrical performance. Marion resolves to file a formal complaint against the sergeant despite uncertain consequences.
