# Cadets to the Rescue

This issue features "Cadets to the Rescue," a serial story set at Annapolis Naval Academy. The protagonist, Clif Faraday—a respected Fourth Class cadet—encounters trouble when a quarrelsome cadet named Darchie deliberately picks a fight. Darchie has been degraded in rank and has joined disreputable companions including Chawncey De Lawncey, McFatrick, and Kafoozlum. While Clif's cadet group strolls along the Severn River, they discover a shoe on a fence rail and begin using it as a target for stone-throwing. Their sport is interrupted when a man with a revolver emerges and fires multiple shots at the cadets. During the chaos, Darchie mysteriously shouts, "Drop it—only cadets," causing the gunman to flee immediately. Clif suspects Darchie knows the shooter's identity but refuses to explain, insisting he merely called out to frighten the man away. Clif resolves to investigate further, suspecting Darchie's connections to gambling and drinking run deeper than acknowledged.
