Klondike Kit's Four-Footed Pard, or, Pay Dirt at Eldorado

Rodman, Hugh P. · 1898

This issue of Klondike Kit Weekly features the opening installment of "Klondike Kit's Four-Footed Pard: or, Pay Dirt at Eldorado," by the author of "Klondike Kit." The story centers on the young gold prospector Klondike Kit, his engineer Karl Schnapps, and pilot Spink, who recover a mysterious leather satchel from the Yukon River while fishing off their steamer, the Full Hand. Alarmed by its contents, Karl and Spink flee while Kit investigates privately. Kit then sets out with his four-foot-tall Great Dane, Biff, to pursue a mysterious caller named Colonel Carter along the trail to El Dorado Creek. Along a treacherous cliff path, Kit intervenes in a holdup: a robber has tricked a peddler into selling him a gun, then threatens robbery. When Kit appears with his rifle and the mysterious satchel, the robber recognizes the bag, revealing Kit has stumbled into something significant. A second gang member confronts Kit, heavily outnumbered.
