This Dutch engraving depicts political conflict during the Fourth Anglo-Dutch War through allegorical and caricatured figures. The left panel shows a mechanical device—war machinery—while the right displays numbered military and political characters in exaggerated postures, their costumes and bearing mocking rival powers. The narrative unfolds across the composition in the tradition of Flemish and Northern European broadsheet satire, where complex political events were rendered as visual symbols and exaggerated human types.

The print inherits the sequential, instructional format of earlier picture-sheets (Bilderbogen) and anticipates comic narrative: numbered figures guide the viewer through a satirical argument. Caricatured dress, body types, and facial features served as visual shorthand for national identity and social rank. Such prints circulated widely, making elite political struggles legible to ordinary readers through exaggeration and ridicule.
