This Dutch satirical broadsheet, engraved and hand-colored, depicts a chaotic outdoor scene mocking French political turmoil during Cardinal Fleury's ministry. Figures in period dress—soldiers, courtiers, women—gesture wildly around a central tree, their actions and expressions ridiculous and exaggerated. The accompanying verse in Dutch delivers pointed political commentary.

Such prints inherited the tradition of Hogarth's moral narratives and anticipate Gillray's biting political graphics. Distributed as affordable single sheets, these satirical engravings reached popular audiences across Europe, combining visual caricature with printed text to expose corruption and folly. The broadsheet format—narrative chaos compressed into one frame—became a direct ancestor to the sequential panels and visual gags of later comic strips and comic books.
