The composition—dense with figures, gestures, and symbolic detail—follows the Northern European tradition of moral satire established by Bruegel and refined by Hogarth. The print employs copper engraving to achieve fine cross-hatching and tonal range, allowing sharp characterization of greed, credulity, and folly across the social spectrum. Below runs explanatory verse in Dutch, a standard feature of commercial satire.
