Cartoons & Caricature

Hypericum anagalloides Cham. & Schltdl.

· Collected August 3, 1902

This is a pressed-plant herbarium specimen, not a cartoon or caricature. It shows dried stems of Hypericum anagalloides (creeping St. John's Wort), collected in Bear Valley, San Bernardino Mountains, California, by LeRoy Abrams during a botanical survey. The plants are pinned to archival board and accompanied by a printed collection label. No satirical content, printmaking tradition, or caricature is present. Writing a wall label situating this object within the Hogarth–Gillray–Daumier–Nast lineage would be fabrication. The item belongs in a natural history or botanical-illustration context, not a comics exhibition.
