Spiranthes romanzoffiana Cham. & Schltdl.

This herbarium sheet preserves four pressed specimens of Irish Lady's-tresses (Spiranthes romanzoffiana), a rare orchid native to Ireland and western Scotland. Mounted on archival paper, the dried plants retain their spiral flower spikes despite decades of desiccation. Collector R. Lloyd Praeger gathered these from a wet bog in North Armagh, Ireland. Two separate herbarium collections — Linton's (presented 1918) and Barton's (presented 1884) — were later consolidated on this sheet. Handwritten annotations reference a 1927 Journal of Botany paper proposing the northern population be reclassified as Spiranthes stricta. The specimen belongs to the Natural History Museum London's systematic botanical archive, central to nineteenth-century taxonomic science.
