Spiranthes romanzoffiana Cham. & Schltdl.

· Collected 1891, Ireland

This is a herbarium specimen sheet, not a political cartoon or caricature. It shows pressed and dried botanical specimens of Spiranthes romanzoffiana (Irish Lady's-tresses orchid), collected at Bantry Bay and Berehaven, County Cork, Ireland, in August 1891 by Dr. Leitch. The sheet bears multiple accession labels from the Natural History Museum, London, Department of Botany, and provenance notes indicating acquisition from the herbaria of R.E. Linton, F. Arnold Lees, and C.E. Salmon. No satirical, printmaking, or caricature tradition is represented here. A wall label for a comic art exhibition cannot honestly be written for this object.
