Cartoons & Caricature
Aristolochia tagala Cham. (Herbarium Specimen)
· Collected March–April 1889; revised identification May 1978
This is not a cartoon or caricature — it is a pressed botanical herbarium sheet collected by Otto Warburg in German New Guinea (present-day Papua New Guinea) during the Iter Warburgianum expedition of 1885–1889. The specimen, originally identified as Aristolochia megalophylla K.Schumann, was revised to Aristolochia tagala Cham. by Ding Hou in 1978 for Flora Malesiana. No satirical content, printmaking tradition, or caricature is present. The image cannot honestly be described as a political cartoon, and fabricating that framing would misrepresent a scientific primary source.
