De Consequentie (The Consequence)

This Dutch political cartoon by Louis Raenekers attacks the Catholic University of Nijmegen through caricature. Three figures—a soldier, a Jewish man in the center, and a bourgeois gentleman—converse while the middle figure gestures wildly. The caption questions why a Catholic institution would house both Berlin Socialists and Moscow Bolshevists, answering: "Hebbes is hebbes en krijgen is de kunst!" (Having is having, and getting is the art!). As wood engraving, it inherits the tradition of Gillray and Daumier in political satire.
