Spiranthes romanzoffiana Cham.

· Collected before 1877; mounted herbarium specimen, Herbier Muséum Paris

This is not a cartoon or caricature. The image shows a pressed and mounted botanical specimen — Spiranthes romanzoffiana (Irish Lady's-tresses, a terrestrial orchid), affixed to herbarium paper with linen tape and accompanied by two handwritten collection labels and a printed Herbier Muséum Paris stamp. The plant displays two flowering spikes with the characteristic spiral arrangement of small tubular flowers. No satirical tradition applies here. This specimen belongs to the history of natural history illustration and taxonomic science, not printmaking satire. A wall label in a comics-history exhibition cannot honestly be written for this object.
