Cartoons & Caricature

Spigelia flemmingiana Cham. & Schltdl.

· Collected 1837, Royal Botanic Gardens herbarium

This is a pressed botanical specimen — not a cartoon or caricature. The sheet holds two dried plants of Spigelia flemmingiana, a neotropical herb in the family Loganiaceae, mounted on herbarium paper alongside manuscript labels identifying it as a syntype. Handwritten annotations record the collector, determiner (G. Bentham), and a reference to the Journal of Botany (1840). A color-calibration strip and ruled scale appear at right, standard archival practice. No satirical imagery, printmaking technique, or caricature tradition is present here. Providing a wall label framing this object as a political cartoon would be factually false. The image is a scientific primary source, not a work of graphic satire.
