On Sunshine Fork of Clark's Fork

Pencil sketch by English-born landscape painter Thomas Moran, executed during his western travels. The composition demonstrates Moran's characteristic approach to documenting American terrain: careful architectural rendering of a distant settlement, atmospheric notation of mountains and sky, and varied hatching techniques to suggest light and distance.
