Napoléon Bonaparte Playing Card

This hand-colored engraving depicts Napoleon Bonaparte as the Hearts suit in a French deck of "Cartes héroïques" (Heroic Cards), a 19th-century tradition of replacing standard playing card figures with celebrated historical and military figures. The card identifies its subject with dates (1769–1821) and presents him in characteristic dress—blue coat, white breeches, boots, and sword—within a castle-rampart border.
