Drapery Study

Francis Augustus Lathrop's ink sketch demonstrates the foundational draftsmanship underlying American illustration in the 1890s. Two quick studies of fabric and garment folds reveal the attention to material form that defined fin-de-siècle commercial art. Lathrop, a prominent decorator and designer, worked across illustration, stained glass, and ornamental design.
