Outcault — who had already transformed American popular culture with The Yellow Kid — here deploys his signature formula: the well-dressed, angel-faced boy perpetrates some elaborate mischief, faces punishment, then delivers a pious 'Resolved' moral that wickedly undercuts the lesson.
