Myra North, Special Nurse

A newspaper adventure strip following Myra North, a nurse drawn into mystery and danger. The strip demonstrates the visual conventions that emerged in 1920s–30s comics: sequential panel layouts, speech balloons, and recurring characters in serialized narrative. The left panels establish domestic setup and exposition; the right panels escalate to outdoor action and pursuit. Myra North exemplified the resourceful female protagonist common to adventure strips of the era, operating within the visual grammar pioneered by The Yellow Kid, Mutt and Jeff, and Little Orphan Annie—techniques that would directly inform the comic book format when publishers began reprinting newspaper strips in bound collections.
