Outcault closes with Buster's signed 'Resolved' moral, his trademark device. The draftsmanship is assured — loose hatching, bold silhouettes, characters who register emotion through posture as much as expression. Outcault had already invented the modern comics page with The Yellow Kid (1895), establishing speech balloons and recurring cast as organizing principles. Sunday color supplements like this one were the direct ancestors of the comic book format that would crystallize by 1933.
