Bringing Up Father — buf390701

· c. 1939 (copyright date visible in strip)

Three panels follow Jiggs and Maggie through a domestic breakfast scene. In the first, a contented husband praises his wife's pancakes while their baby coos from a high chair; she fusses over him warmly. The middle panel shifts to a doorway where Jiggs marvels at the couple's happiness while grumbling about waiting for his own breakfast. The final panel shows Maggie snapping at him across the table — her familiar rolling-pin authority replaced here by sharp words about shirtsleeves and spoon-drumming. George McManus launched Bringing Up Father in 1913; its clean ink line, expressive figures, and interlocking speech balloons helped standardize the visual grammar that daily strips exported directly into the first comic book reprints of the 1930s.
