Yoshihisa Tagami, born December 9, 1958, in Komoro, Nagano, Japan, is a manga artist best known for his work on the cyberpunk series *Grey*. He entered the comics field after receiving an Honorable Mention in the Shogakukan Manga Award’s Newcomer category in 1978 for his story *Zashikiwarashi*, which became his first published work in the January 10, 1979 issue of *Big Comic*. Tagami’s style blends gritty, detailed linework with a dark, futuristic sensibility, often exploring themes of survival and identity. His most notable creation is *Grey*, a post-apocalyptic saga he wrote and illustrated, which gained an English-language audience in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He also produced the two-part *Horobi* series. Tagami was the older brother of fellow manga artist Iku Oyamada, who died in 2016. While his English-language catalog is limited—credited on 18 issues between 1988 and 1991—his work remains a touchstone for fans of 1980s Japanese science fiction manga. Tagami’s contributions have not been widely recognized with major awards beyond his early newcomer honor, but his influence persists among collectors and scholars of the genre.
