Vahan Shirvanian was an American cartoonist known for his long-running single-panel comic strip *No Comment*. He was born on February 10, 1925, in Hackensack, New Jersey, and died on January 30, 2013, in Mountain Lakes, New Jersey. Shirvanian began his career in the late 1950s, contributing cartoons to major magazines such as *The Saturday Evening Post*, *Ladies' Home Journal*, and *The American Legion*. His clean, economical linework and sharp observational humor made his gag cartoons a staple in these publications for decades. In 1959, he received the National Cartoonist Society Gag Cartoon Award, recognizing his skill in crafting single-panel jokes. Shirvanian’s most enduring creation, *No Comment*, debuted in 1970 and ran for over 40 years, offering wry commentary on everyday life without dialogue. He worked primarily as a solo creator, writing and drawing his own material, though his work appeared alongside other cartoonists in the syndicated features of the time. Shirvanian’s career spanned more than 50 years, with his last credited work appearing in 2009. His legacy lies in his consistent, understated humor that found a home in the golden age of magazine cartooning, and his award remains a testament to his craft within the gag cartoon community.
