Ulf Lundkvist
1952–
Ulf Lundkvist, born in 1952, is a Swedish comic creator, illustrator, and painter. He is best known for his nostalgic, affectionate depictions of an older Sweden, particularly the small towns and countryside of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, often rendered with a gentle, humorous absurdity. His most famous creation is the comic strip *Assar*, which follows a sentient hot dog who escapes being eaten to seek adventure. Lundkvist’s work is marked by a warm, anachronistic charm, where time seems to stand still. He has worked as artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer on 14 issues from 1981 to 2011, with his most credited titles including *Assar*, *Assar de luxe*, *Assarhäfte*, *Djupfryst i hemmet*, *Får jag lov?*, and *Lyckans tomtar*. While specific major awards are not recorded in available sources, his legacy endures as a singular voice in Swedish comics, blending nostalgia with surreal humor.
