Trini Tinturé
1935–2024
Trini Tinturé, born Trinidad Tinturé Navarro on 6 August 1935 in Spain, was a cartoonist and illustrator whose work shaped the look of girls’ and teenagers’ comics across Europe. She died on 17 January 2024. Entering the field in the early 1960s, Tinturé quickly became a sought-after artist for the foreign market, particularly British publishers. Over a career spanning four decades, she penciled and inked more than 120 issues, most notably for series such as *Tina*, *Jinty*, *Debbie*, *Biggi*, and *Conny*. Her clean, expressive linework and warm character designs made her a natural fit for romance and school stories. In Spain, her most enduring creation is *Emma es encantadora* (1981), a long-running series co-created with writer Andreu Martín. Tinturé’s style was marked by a gentle clarity and a keen sense of youthful emotion, earning her a devoted readership. In 2023, she received the Grand Prize at the Barcelona International Comic Fair, a fitting capstone to a career built on quiet, consistent excellence. Her legacy endures in the fondly remembered comics she brought to life for generations of young readers.
