Tony De Zuniga
Tony DeZuniga was a Filipino comics artist and illustrator, best known as the co-creator of the DC Comics characters Jonah Hex and Black Orchid. He was born Antony de Zuñiga on November 8, 1932, in the Philippines, and died on May 11, 2012. DeZuniga holds a significant place in comics history as the first Filipino artist to have his work accepted by American publishers, opening the door for many other Filipino talents to enter the international industry. His career at DC Comics spanned from 1971 to 1989, during which he worked as both an artist and inker on a range of titles. His most credited works include *The Phantom Zone*, *Action Comics Weekly*, *House of Mystery*, *Infinity, Inc.*, *Ms. Marvel*, and the Swedish *Skräckmagasinet*. DeZuniga’s style was marked by a clean, expressive linework that suited both horror and superhero genres. His legacy is that of a pioneer who helped establish a Filipino presence in mainstream American comics, and his co-creations remain enduring parts of DC’s mythos.
