Steven E. de Souza
Steven E. de Souza, born November 17, 1947, in the United States, built his reputation as a screenwriter for some of the most defining action films of the 1980s and 1990s. His credits include *48 Hrs.*, *Commando*, *The Running Man*, *Die Hard*, *Die Hard 2*, *Hudson Hawk*, *Knock Off*, and *Judge Dredd*. De Souza’s path into comics came later, with his first credited work appearing in 1995. Over the next three decades, he wrote 14 issues, primarily for licensed properties. His most frequent contributions were to *Sheena: Queen of the Jungle* and its follow-up *Sheena, Trail of the Mapinguari*, as well as adaptations of the *Street Fighter* video game franchise, including *Street Fighter: The Battle for Shadaloo*. His comic work often carried the same fast-paced, one-liner-heavy sensibility found in his film scripts. While de Souza has not been a prolific comic book writer, his involvement brought a Hollywood action-film energy to the page. His legacy remains anchored in his film work, where his scripts helped shape the modern action genre. He has received no major comic book industry awards, but his influence on popular culture is widely acknowledged through the enduring popularity of his screenplays.
