Serge Clerc was born on 12 October 1957 in France. He is best known as a French comic book artist and illustrator, celebrated for his clean, retro-styled linework that evokes mid-century design and pop culture. Clerc broke into the industry in 1975 after launching his own fanzine, *Absolutely Live*, which led to work in the influential monthly *Métal Hurlant*. His early science-fiction story *Captain Futur* was collected into a book in 1979 by Les Humanoïdes Associés.

In the early 1980s, Clerc’s illustrations regularly appeared in British music weeklies *NME* and *Melody Maker*. For the magazine *Rock and Folk*, he created the detective duo Phil Perfect and his alter-ego Sam Bronx, a series that also ran in *Métal Hurlant* and was published in book form by Les Humanoïdes Associés. His distinctive, nostalgic visual style has been used on album covers for The Fleshtones, Carmel, and Joe Jackson, among others.

Clerc’s catalog credits span 1978 to 2025, with work on titles such as *Taschen Comics*, *Métal Hurlant*, *Atomium 58*, and an adventure in the *Spirou et Fantasio* universe. He continues to be recognized for his enduring influence on European illustration and bande dessinée.
