Sarah Glidden
1980–
Sarah Glidden, born in 1980, is an American cartoonist recognized for her nonfiction graphic novels and comics journalism. She first gained attention with her debut book, *How to Understand Israel in 60 Days or Less*, a travelogue-memoir that documents her Birthright Israel trip and the complexities of her own perspective. The work, which she wrote, drew, and colored, was also translated into French, German, and Dutch editions. Glidden’s style is clean, expressive, and grounded in reportage, often blending personal narrative with political observation. She has contributed to anthologies like *Dumb* and collaborated with other nonfiction cartoonists, though her most sustained work remains her solo projects. Her later graphic novel, *Rolling Blackouts: Dispatches from Turkey, Syria, and Iraq*, further cemented her reputation as a thoughtful, on-the-ground storyteller. Active in the industry from 2010 through 2018, Glidden’s work has been praised for its nuanced approach to complex geopolitical subjects. She has received awards including the Ridenhour Book Prize and a Lambda Literary Award, and her comics are frequently taught in courses on journalism and graphic memoir.
