Rockne S. O'Bannon
Rockne S. O'Bannon is an American television writer, screenwriter, and producer best known for creating ambitious science fiction series that push the boundaries of speculative television. Born in 1955, he made his writing debut selling spec material to NBC's *Amazing Stories* and CBS's *The Twilight Zone* in 1985, but first gained critical attention with the film *Alien Nation* (1988) and its subsequent television spinoff. His first original series, *seaQuest DSV*, ran for three seasons beginning in 1993, but his most acclaimed achievement is the space epic *Farscape* (1999–2003), which earned four seasons, a miniseries, and a comic book continuation. O'Bannon later created *Defiance* and *Cult* (both 2013), the miniseries *The Triangle* (2005), and served as executive producer and writer on series including *Constantine*, *Revolution*, *V*, and *Evil*. He has won multiple Saturn Awards, including Best Series for *Farscape*, and received nominations for a Hugo Award and a WGA Award. In comics, O'Bannon has been credited as writer on 15 issues, primarily expanding the *Farscape* universe through titles like *Farscape Scorpius*, *Farscape: Gone and Back*, and a 25th Anniversary Special. His work places him in rare company alongside writers like Rod Serling for consistently creating original series that challenge the conventions of television science fiction.
