Richard McGuire was born in 1957 in New Jersey. He is best known for his groundbreaking comic "Here," first published in 1989, which uses a fixed spatial perspective to depict a single corner of a room across millions of years. A graphic novel expansion of the concept was released by Pantheon Books in December 2014. McGuire's work as an artist, colorist, inker, letterer, and writer spans 15 issues from 1989 to 2017, with his most credited titles including *Here*, *Hier*, *Aquí*, and *Dibujos secuenciales*. His illustrations have appeared in *The New York Times*, *The New Yorker*, and *Le Monde*, and his originals are held by the Museum of Modern Art and the Morgan Library & Museum. A film adaptation of *Here*, directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, was released in 2024. Beyond comics, McGuire is also a musician.
