Ricardo Barreiro
Ricardo Barreiro (October 2, 1949 – April 12, 1999) was an Argentine comic book writer whose work earned a devoted following across Latin America and Europe. Born in Buenos Aires, he entered the industry in the late 1970s, quickly establishing himself as a versatile storyteller. Barreiro is best remembered for series such as *Slot-Barr*, *As de Pique*, *Parque Chas*, and *El Eternauta: Odio cósmico*, the last a continuation of Héctor Germán Oesterheld’s classic. He collaborated with a remarkable roster of artists, including Juan Giménez, Eduardo Risso, Enrique Breccia, Francisco Solano López, Juan Zanotto, and Enrique Alcatena, often co-creating the stories that defined their visual worlds. Barreiro’s writing spanned genres from science fiction to horror and political intrigue, marked by a dark, imaginative edge. He was a prolific contributor to anthologies like *Skorpio* and *Lanciostory*, and his work appeared in over fifty issues across publishers in Argentina and Italy. He passed away in Buenos Aires at age 49. Though he never received major industry awards in his lifetime, Barreiro’s influence endures through the continued reprinting of his stories and the admiration of later generations of Latin American comic creators.
