Nalo Hopkinson (born 20 December 1960, Kingston, Jamaica) is a speculative fiction writer and editor best known for novels such as *Brown Girl in the Ring*, *Midnight Robber*, and *The Salt Roads*, as well as the short-story collection *Skin Folk*. Her work draws deeply on Caribbean history, language, and oral storytelling traditions. She moved to Canada as a child and later studied at York University and the University of Toronto. Hopkinson’s path into comics came later in her career, most notably as the writer of *House of Whispers*, a 20-issue series published from 2018 to 2020. She has also edited anthologies including *Whispers from the Cotton Tree Root* and *Mojo: Conjure Stories*, and co-edited *So Long Been Dreaming* with Uppinder Mehan and *Tesseracts 9* with Geoff Ryman. In 2020, she was named the 37th Damon Knight Grand Master by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, recognizing her lifetime achievement. As of 2021, she lives and teaches in Vancouver, British Columbia.
