Maciej Parowski
Maciej Parowski (27 December 1946, Warsaw – 2 June 2019, Warsaw) was a Polish journalist, essayist, science fiction writer, editor, and translator, often described as a foundational figure in Poland’s science fiction and fantasy scene. He is best known for his work as a writer on the comic series *Funky Koval*, a landmark Polish sci-fi comic that blended political satire with space opera. Parowski’s path into comics came through his broader literary career; he began as a science fiction author and translator before moving into editing and scripting. His signature style combined sharp social commentary with genre tropes, and he frequently collaborated with artists like Bogusław Polch. Beyond *Funky Koval*, Parowski contributed to anthologies such as *Czas komiksu antologia* and the post-communist reflection *Après le Mur...*, and his editorial work shaped Polish comics through the 1990s and 2000s. He was credited on 14 issues in our catalog, with his most active period spanning 1990 to 2011. Later in life, he continued writing essays and editing, cementing his legacy as a key architect of Polish comic culture. Major awards include recognition from the Polish science fiction community, though specific honors are not detailed in available sources.
